The much anticipated trailer has dropped for the forthcoming World War II epic ‘Hacksaw Ridge’, a project helmed by the mercurial Hollywood icon Mel Gibson.
The long awaited film is the third creative collaboration between screenplay writer Randall Wallace and Gibson, the two famously did other war epics such as ‘Braveheart’ and ‘We Were Soldiers’ together in the past, a track record which lends itself to high hopes for this November’s ‘Hacksaw Ridge’.
Gibson has fought industry shunning over the last decade, fallout that came from his embarrassing DWI arrest in Malibu that ended in anti-Semitic drunken rants has proven a sin that Hollywood has been less than quick to forgive…or at least uses as an excuse not to forgive…
Just the same, momentum has been building for a Mel Gibson come back in recent years, and audiences seem eager to embrace the filmmaker’s second act…particularly as a director, a role that appears to be his most gifted trade.
This will be Gibson’s first return to the director’s chair since 2006’s ‘Apocalypto’, a year and a film name that ironically predicted the career apocalypse that would befall Mel after the Malibu incident.
But finally a project that peaked Mel’s interest came across his desk, one worthy of his own funding to get off the ground if need be.
And it’s a project that attracted plenty of elite Hollywood talent, including actors such as Andrew Garfield, Vince Vaughn, and Sam Worthington.
It was the little known story of a U.S Army medic in the Pacific theater of the Second World War, a soldier that never fired a shot, never carried a weapon, but who earned the Congressional Medal of Honor for his heroics under fire.

It was a story to packed with emotion and high drama to pass up, and Mel Gibson’s sensibilities seemed the perfect match for the material.
Time will tell if the film brings in the bottom line that Hollywood ultimately worships above any grudges, and if ‘Hacksaw Ridge’ delivers at the box office, you can bet that Mel Gibson will once again be back in Tinseltown’s good graces….potentially even with an Oscar nomination.
And America is a sucker for a good comeback story.
Sounds like there’s a lethal weapon back in the director’s chair…
