Did you miss it?!
The Monday office water cooler chatter was all about Sunday night’s dramatic—and we really mean dramatic—final moments of Miss Universe 2015.
It started innocently enough, as host Steve Harvey announced that Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutiérrez was the pageant’s winner. There were the usual hugs, cheers, flowers, fake smiles, a standing ovation and everything you’d expect from such a beauty pageant moment. Things quickly turned south, however, when Steve had another announcement…a contradiction of what he’d already told the entire WORLD.
“Okay folks, I have to apologize. The first runner-up is Colombia,” he sheepishly explained as the camera panned to the other finalists, Miss USA and Miss Philippines. In other words, Miss Universe 2015 was actually Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach!

This was real drama, and live television at its absolute and unpredictable best! Steve Harvey had singlehandedly created the proverbial train wreck we all can’t ever take our eyes away from, a moment destined to live on YouTube for years to come.
He was visibly emotional, and almost overcome by tears, “Please don’t hold it against the ladies. We feel so badly but it’s been a great night.”
The final five contenders were asked about some world events and hot button issues. Miss USA was even asked about gun control, but was unable to finish her answer before her time ran out. But despite all the glamour, beauty, bikinis, and fashionable dresses, this pageant will be remembered for Harvey’s mistake above all else.
Harvey took to Twitter after the show was over to express his regret for what had happened.
Apology accepted, and we give Harvey credit for pressing on with the show even after it all hit the fan.
But we all can’t wait to see what Saturday Night Live does with this material!
