Pop star/ music virtuoso Justin Timberlake is facing major backlash on social media.
It appears he dared to have a civil opinion on Twitter and paid the price…
The singer was apparently moved by actor Jesse Williams‘ Humanitarian Award acceptance speech at the 2016 BET Awards, so he took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the actor’s acceptance speech with fans…and apparently foes.
@iJesseWilliams tho…#Inspired#BET2016

Which was clearly an invitation for oblivious internet trolls and self righteous social justice warriors to quickly pounce…
Among the replies, were this gem…
@jtimberlake@iJesseWilliams Did you like the part when Jesse talked about white people stealing from us? That should resonate with you.

“Sockruhthese” appears to lack the self awareness that his name culturally appropriates a Greek philosopher from antiquity, and that his Twitter avatar picture is of the character “Pennywise”, created by the white bread horror novelist Stephen King…or that he’s speaking the English language…which is of a culture other than his own, but I digress…
Timberlake kept his cool, however, and refused to bow to the haters…something that only seemed to goad them into becoming more irate…
Oh, you sweet soul. The more you realize that we are the same, the more we can have a conversation.

How a major white pop star speaks on social issues after being “inspired” by Jesse Williams… “We are the same” https://t.co/269BkDqzsX

Timberlake decided to nip the faux outrage in the bud, and opted for a gentlemanly exit…
I apologize to anyone that felt I was out of turn. I have nothing but LOVE FOR YOU AND ALL OF US.

But even that didn’t seem to quell the internet fury, the sanctimony raged on without Justin present.
But as they say, haters gonna hate…
