Last week, Selena Gomez and Charlie Puth exposed a part of their planned and upcoming duet, “We Don’t Talk Anymore”. And nearly everyone would agree that this latest single is set to have people talking, fans screaming, and exes sobbing. We just can’t thank JB enough for yet another hit.

Watch: Charlie Puth’s IG post teasing about new song with Selena
Charlie based the song on the experience of a friend who had a rocky relationship. “He had just broken up with this girl… I was trying to cheer him up, so I did a dumb little face, and I was like, [singing] ‘We don’t talk anymore,’ “ he told MTV News. “I was just trying to cheer him up, but it became a cool melody, and I realized that this guitar beat fits perfectly over it.”

Charlie knew Selena Gomez would be perfect as collaborator on his track, given that the public knew what a rocky relationship Gomez has had in the past.
“I met up with Selena, and she went through a very public relationship, on and off, and she could just relate to the song and the lyrical sentiment,” Charlie said. “I was playing the song for her, and she just started singing the second verse. I got chills. I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, that sounds so real. You need to sing on it.’ And she said yes.”

Selena seems to have a knack for connecting personal experiences into her music, like when “The Heart Wants What It Wants” told us all an unspoken truth about her heartaches of the past. When this new song from Charlie and Selena is released, we can only imagine that even more broken hearts will relate.
