Awards season has arrived and audiences are eagerly anticipating red carpet fanfare and glamorous stars. The first big event of the season is the Golden Globes, which is known as the more informal version of the Academy awards. Over the years, it also has produced quite a number of shocking and even scandalous moments. Take a look at a few of the most eyebrow raising episodes that have occurred over the years.

Elizabeth Taylor Can’t Wait
Taylor was known to indulge her cocktails, but she carried her liquor like a lightweight. In 2001, she was tasked to present the award for Best Drama, and almost forgot to mention the nominees as she zealously tore open the envelope to read the winner. Thankfully, co-presenter Dick Clark saved her, and directed her to correct her near infamous mistake before it was too late.

Ricky Gervais Offends Everybody
Gervais first hosted the Globes in 2010. During his initial stint, the British comedian made some offensive remarks on his monologue that targeted Johnny Depp, Angelina Jolie, Charlie Sheen, a certain famous Scientologist and many more. This was done in less than five minutes. What’s most shocking is he came to host again for the next two years.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler take on Hollywood’s leading men
The funny girl duo made fun of all the leading men. For instance, they had a laugh at George Clooney‘s film, saying “Gravity is nominated for Best Film. It’s the story of how George Clooney would rather float away into space and die than to spend one more minute with a woman his own age.” And their joke on Leonardo DiCaprio which is a little too blush-worthy for us to repeat here.

Jacqueline Bisset Rambles
In 2015 Golden Globe, Bisset won an award for her role in “Dancing on the Edge”, but her acceptance speech is not at all award-winning. The actress became so moved, she made no sense while on stage and even dropped cuss words while ignoring the cutoff music entirely. When she was about to leave the stage, she gave an awkward piece of advice, “I believe, if you want to look good, you’ve got to forgive everybody. You have to forgive everybody—it’s the best beauty treatment.”

Jack Nicholson High On Valium
His role in “About Schmidt” won him an award for Best Actor in a Drama. While on the stage and poking fun at his co-stars, Nicholson admitted that he had taken Valium… And it certainly showed.

Jeremy Renner Admires J.Lo…
Renner can’t help but admire the gorgeous Lopez’ and her…um, treasures. When presenting the award for Best Miniseries Drama at the 2015 show, the co-presenters were asking who will open the envelope. “You want me to do it?” she asked. “I’ve got the nails.” Renner then took a peek at Lopez’s plunging neckline and quipped, “You’ve got the globes, too.” J.Lo was more flattered than annoyed.

The Golden Globe Awards Canceled In 2008
The HFPA was forced to cancel the awards ceremony, saying writers, directors, producers and actors would not show up on the red carpet due to the WGA Writer’s Strike at the time. Instead, a televised press conference was shown announcing the winners.
Tina Fey Calls Out Internet Trolls
The 30 Rock star joked in her acceptance speech that if you’re ever in danger of feeling a little too good about yourself, you should just go on the Internet…

Jodie Foster’s (sort of) Coming Out Speech
Foster received the Cecil B. DeMille lifetime achievement award in 2013. In her speech, there seemed to be a hint of a coming out saying, “I guess I have a sudden urge to say something that I’ve never really been able to air in public… But I’m just going to put it out there, right? Loud and proud, right? So I’m going to need your support on this. I am single.”

Renée Zellweger’s Badly Timed Bathroom Break
In the 2001 Golden Globe, Hugh Grant announced Zellweger as the Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy for “Nurse Betty”. However, she was nowhere to be found… But as Grant was accepting the award on her behalf she came rushing toward the stage. It turns out she had been in the bathroom taking lipstick off her teeth.
