And they even want Daniel Radcliffe to reprise his iconic role…at age 27.
Warner Bros. is a studio clamoring to climb out of a box office slide, having botched would be movie hits with Batman vs. Superman and Suicide Squad, the studio is feeling the heat for these supposed slam dunk summer tentpoles failing to deliver blockbuster returns due to lackluster ticket sales.
So they’re hoping to squeeze a little magic out of the studio’s most successful modern franchise, the retired film property of Harry Potter.

As luck would have it, a new story in the Harry Potter universe, not part of the book series, has debuted on stage in London to rave reviews and princely ticket sales…
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is taking London’s West End by storm, and Warner Bros. executives are now hoping that enthusiasm will spill over into an appetite for Harry Potter film mania to have a revival.
The New York Daily News reports that the studio is desperate to make more Harry Potter movies in the wake of The Cursed Child‘s record-breaking success. According to the report, Warner Bros. is interested in turning Albus Severus Potter’s adventure into a trilogy.
Adding fuel to the rumor mill fire, Warner Bros. did recently file a new trademark for The Cursed Child — a Class 9, which is specifically for motion pictures.
“Warners is secretly working on getting the movie rights and a screenplay settled, and of course in their minds only one man should be Harry,” the Daily News source alleged. And that man is Daniel Radcliffe.
There’s one sizable setback, however…Radcliffe doesn’t want anything to do with Harry Potter anymore…

But never say never, because money talks, and if Warner Bros. is willing to open some deep pockets then Radcliffe can likely be bought…er, I mean coaxed into taking on another artistic Harry Potter venture…
When asked about the possibility of his return to the role, Radcliffe opined, “The circumstances would have to be pretty extraordinary. But then I am sure Harrison Ford said that with Han Solo, and look what happened there! So I am saying no for now, but leaving room to backtrack in the future.”
What’s more, even if the can secure Radcliffe for a sequel, JK Rowling is apparently yet to sign off on whether or not she’ll permit the play to be adapted to the screen at all…

When all is said and done, it may take more magic than even Hogwarts can muster to return Harry to the big screen.
