It’s a new year! And in 2016 we can expect a fresh lineup of highly anticipated new blockbusters and some familiar popcorn favorites. Here are our lucky number seven.
Right off the bat we are treated with the Oscar buzz surrounding Leonardo DiCaprio and his newest project The Revenant, which will finally have a nation wide release after teasing us all with sneak previews in late 2015 that we common folk weren’t able to attend. This may be the year that Leo finally snags his golden statuette…frankly they should just give him one already, what that bear does to to him on camera just isn’t right.

Another soon to be new release that has critics and moviegoers buzzing is the Michael Bay political thriller 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi, a controversial film about the fall of the U.S. embassy in Libya back in 2012. This intense and politically charged drama had star John Krasinski doing extra sit ups to impress the ladies with his shirtless physique, but we’ll let the box office decide if anyone other than his wife appreciates his time in the gym.

Hunky Ryan Reynolds is set to play the comic book superhero Deadpool in a movie called, you guessed it, Deadpool. We’ll see if Reynolds can recover from his recent box office slump, a trend that has made the lovable wisecrack a bit of a studio pariah in recent years…we’re rooting for the come back, and the shirt is always optional.

Speaking of superheroes, there’s a quaint little one on the horizon, Batman v. Superman: The Dawn of Justice. Ben Affleck is taking over the role of billionaire vigilante Bruce Wayne from Christian Bale, and duking it out with the Man of Steel, Henry Cavill, on the silver-screen. This duel may even be more fierce than Affleck’s off camera divorce, but hopefully the box office will help him recover from his pending trip to the cleaners.

Rounding out our high-octane superhero summer will be Captain America: Civil War, because you wanted to see another sequel, right? This time you get to see Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/ Iron Man battle it out with his former on-screen ally Steve Rogers/ Captain America, played by the debonair Chris Evans. Another super hero fight? Thanks Hollywood, so original! All the same, we hope they avenge the box office with their star power.

Steven Spielberg has adapted the Roald Dahl children’s classic The BFG. The lovable tale of a child abducting giant that sings about his flatulence. Lest you think that’s a joke, it isn’t, here’s the song featured in the 1980s animated adaptation. We’re sure that not only will it be a new box office Goliath, but will provide endless road trip sing along material for families across America.

Our shirtless trifecta would not be complete without the King of the Apes himself, Tarzan. Alexander Skarsgard is poised to make the ladies swoon with his turn as the loincloth clad jungle man in the forthcoming blockbuster The Legend of Tarzan. Which apparently had his “Jane” co-star, Margot Robbie, blushing on set. Tarzan is set to swing into action later this summer…we’ve already got our popcorn ready.

So there you have it, all the eye-candy and star power Tinseltown is serving up in 2016, and we don’t mind one bit!
