NBC says “Saturday Night Live” cast members Jay Pharoah and Taran Killam are not returning next season…
The comedians have opted to wrap up their six year tenure with SNL and will not be brought back for the upcoming 42nd season of the iconic comedy show.
Both are known for their celebrity impressions, including Pharoah’s Barack Obama and Kanye West, and Killam’s Brad Pitt and Donald Trump — although the Trump role went to SNL announcer and former star Darrel Hammond during the past season…and presumably through the remainder of the election cycle.
SNL has had a revolving door of talent ever since its inception, with cast shakeups occurring every few years, usually as the show’s stars gain prominence and branch out into more lucrative endeavors such as movie careers.
Pharoah and Killam are hoping to strike out on their own in successful fashion, following in the footsteps of such celebrated SNL alums as Bill Murray, John Beluschi, Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase, Eddie Murphy, Martin Short, Jon Lovitz, Phil Hartman, Adam Sandler, Dana Carvey, Dennis Miller, Norm MacDonald, Chris Farley, David Spade, Will Ferrell, Jimmy Fallon, Andy Samberg, Kristen Wiig, and Tina Fey…just to name a few.
No word as to what young talent is slated to try and replace the departing duo…
The show’s been down hill as of late, but without these two things look bleak…
