Now that the smoke has cleared and the dust has settled, two new charities will receive $3.5 million each as a donation from Amber Heard. She is donating all her settlement money from her divorce from Johnny Depp in a PR stunt….er, I mean, an act of altruism…
The official joint statement from Johnny Depp and Amber read:
“Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love. Neither party has made false accusations for financial gain. There was never any intent of physical or emotional harm. Amber wishes the best for Johnny in the future. Amber will be donating financial proceeds from the divorce to a charity.”
In statement to USA Today, Amber added: “As described in the restraining order and divorce settlement, money played no role for me personally and never has, except to the extent that I could donate it to charity and, in doing so, hopefully help those less able to defend themselves.”
There was no doubt that Amber and Johnny Depp’s divorce got pretty ugly. Amber cried domestic violence and painted Johnny as a physical abuser. The deposition already begun but before that, Amber and Johnny couldn’t reach a settlement…well, that’s until Tuesday, when both parties has come to an agreement (miraculously after incriminating video emerged of Johnny throwing a tantrum).
Heard continued to share that “…the amount received in the divorce was $7 million and $7 million is being donated. This is over and above any funds that I have given away in the past and will continue to give away in the future.”
She also explained that she knows these organizations and trusts that the money will be put to good use and will help change people’s lives for the better, especially the ones who need it the most. If you’re thinking that it’s all a publicity stunt, you’re probably right… However, the charities have already released their statements thanking Amber for the generous donation, which means that she has donated the money even before talking to the media about it…meaning her PR people are smooth and calculated…if you’re cynical…and you should be.
