The Rio Olympics 2016 has certainly brought about a new collection of internet memes that we can all
enjoy. But one of the most popular one’s making the rounds right now is that of Usain Bolt looking over his shoulder and smiling while blazing past his opponents as they eat his dust. Even Ellen DeGeneres couldn’t contain herself…and photo-shopped herself into the candid moment.
On Monday, Ellen shared the same meme but this time, Ellen wass with Usain in the meme….or rather, on him. Ellen is seen riding Usain’s back, which honestly looked hilarious. She captioned the post:
“From now on, this is how I’m running errands. #Rio2016”
Who would’ve thought that this meme would go viral and elicit very controversial reactions from across the internet. On one side, people found it hilarious just like Ellen did. On the other side, people threw the race card around.
overly sensitive people thought it was racist of Ellen to be riding Usain like a horse or a mule. Contrary to the negative reactions, those who sided with Ellen explained that it was simply recognizing how fast Usain is…which would be a big help when running errands…in other words, it was a inoffensive joke.
Yesterday, Ellen finally made a statement and addressed the issue:

We highly doubt that Ellen posted this meme with a discriminatory purpose in mind. It could just all be a simple misunderstanding, to which Ellen has already explained her side.
By the way, Usain didn’t take offense at the photo at all and even shared the meme himself. Even he found it funny along with the 699,000 who liked the photo…but haters are gonna hate, and the haterade was strong in some.
