Back in the early 2000s Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake were the teen idol couple of the new millennium.
They were the perfect fit for the era, both Mickey Mouse Club alums, both bubble gum pop MTV darlings, both Southern raised and deemed to be virtuous role models (though bitter post breakup revelations would later confirm the two lost their virginity to one another).
But then came the bitter split in 2002…
In fact, early in Justin’s solo career, after becoming detached from the strings of the boy band *N’Sync, he even wove chart topping gold from a single that implied bitter feelings toward Britney called callously “Cry Me A River”…
But all those alleged tears must now be water under the proverbial bridge 14 years after the two went their separate ways.
Now music veterans in their mid 30s, and parents with adult responsibilities, the two appear ready to play nice and wax nostalgic about the good times of yesteryear.
The recent talk of a potential reunion was spawned by a Q&A with fans that Spears gave. When asked about which music producer she would most want to collaborate with, she answered Aerosmith, Gwen Stefani and Justin Timberlake. Of course, everyone focused on Justin Timberlake, whom she described simply and emphatically as “very good.”
Once the compliment was relayed to Timberlake, he responded graciously in kind to the idea of teaming up with his ex.
“Sure! Absolutely, absolutely…I have a 17 month old so I don’t get the headline news. I apologize for not being in the know … I’m accessible, give us a call!” Justin exclaimed to E! News.
And what’s more, Justin’s former N’SYNC bandmate Lance Bass thinks it will actually happen…
“It would completely break the Internet. I would love to see that happen and have a feeling it will happen,” Bass told PEOPLE.
And for old time’s sake, we hope it does.
