The New York Daily News recently reported that Warner Bros. intends to adapt J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter theater production, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, with Daniel Radcliffe being courted by a desperate movie studio to reprise his iconic role.
While the studio has disputed the report, that didn’t stop press members from bombarding Radcliffe with Potter-related questions at this weekend’s Deauville Film Festival, where he accepted the Rising Star award.
And Radcliffe embraced the attention, “I’m never going to close the door; that would be a stupid thing to do.”

Radcliffe was sure to add, however, that he is “happy enough and secure enough” to let someone else portray Harry Potter. He also believes that he’s too young to play the father-of-three adult Potter featured in the Cursed Child.
“At the moment it’s not even a concern because I’m too young to play the character, but even in 10 years’ time I would still feel strange about going back to it,” he explained.
So this could be a future project…
Nevertheless, Radcliffe said “it would depend on the script,” adding, “The circumstances would have to be pretty extraordinary. But then I am sure Harrison Ford said that with Han Solo and look what happened there!”
The Cursed Child depicts Potter “an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband, and father of three school-age children … who grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.”
And it’s been a real crowd pleaser on the stage to date, something that Warner bros. would no doubt like to replicate on the screen soon er than later, but if Radcliffe has any say then it may indeed have to be later…
In the meantime, the studio will have to be happy with the pending release its Harry Potter prequel film, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, on November 18th, 2016.
