Whether it was fate or mere pity, Leonardo DiCaprio FINALLY nabbed an elusive Academy Award for Best actor, a prize that had escaped him since he was first nominated back in 1993!
The five time Oscar nominated actor took home his first victory Sunday night, all in recognition of his work in “The Revenant”…or at least as a token gift for his longevity in the film business.

The 41 year old thespian was heralded to the stage with a standing ovation from his fellow Academy members, letting him know they voted for him and knew the monkey on his back was now being lifted.
But despite the hype surrounding Leo’s Oscar, it wasn’t enough to save the the 88th Academy Awards from tanking in the ratings, proving America loves Leo…just not enough to wait around 4 hours on a work night to wait to see him win what we all already knew he would.
Controversy had surrounded the Oscars in the build up to showtime, but the snooze-worthy antics of host Chris Rock and an array of politically charged soapbox speeches sent Americans to bed yawning quicker than anticipated.
But Leonardo DiCaprio’s anticipated Oscar win was made all the more predictable by the fact he had swept through award season and claimed every single prize imaginable in the run up to Oscar night.
So we all feigned surprise at the anti-climactic and went to bed early, secure with the thought that Monday we would wake up in a world where a rich handsome actor would finally have his coveted Academy Award…and we weren’t wrong.
