The TV host declares start of the “2016 Republican National Hungry for Power Games.”
Stephen Colbert kicked off his coverage the Republican National Convention on Sunday night with a comical denuciation of the party’s presumptive nominee from the convention stage.
The Late Show host can be seen in a YouTube video – apparently dressed as fictional TV host Caesar Flickman from The Hunger Games – standing at the podium at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.
Donald Trump “has formed an alliance with Indiana Gov. Mike Pence,” Colbert says before flopping—apparently bored—over the podium.
“Sorry, I blacked out there for a moment,” he says, pausing for a moment.
“So, it is my honour to hereby launch and begin the 2016 Republican National Hungry for Power Games!” Colbert cackles, as he hefts a gavel lying beside the podium and slams it down.
As man in a suit approaches and begins pushing Colbert away from the podium, he can be heard saying, “Look, I know I’m not supposed to be up here, but let’s be honest, neither is Donald Trump.”
