The late great female wrestler ‘Chyna‘ who was self described as “one part feminist and one part super hero” in her 2001 autobiography, was found dead in her Redondo Beach apartment on Wednesday evening.
A friend found her unresponsive, and immediately contacted authorities.
No foul play is suspected at this time, but the cause of death is an on going investigation.
‘Chyna’, who’s real names was Joan Laurer, was 45 years old and long since retired from her WWE days.
“It is with deep sadness to inform you that we lost a true icon, a real life superhero. Joanie Laurer aka Chyna, the 9th wonder of the world, has passed away,” a post on her website notified her fans.
In her life after wrestling she had dabbled in the adult film industry, and was even intending to make more films of a pornographic nature before her untimely death.
She was last seen alive on Sunday, but by the looks of her remains authorities determined she had likely been dead several days.
No signs of suicide or drug overdose were discerned at the scene.
As this is an ongoing investigation, the details of her cause of death await an autopsy and coroner’s report to finalize the truth.
