Plans were once proceeding for a highly anticipated sequel to the cult classic “Galaxy Quest,” but the startling death of star Alan Rickman put an abrupt end to the idea, at least according to Rickman’s former co-star Sam Rockwell.

“They were going to do a sequel on Amazon, and we were ready to sign up for it, and Alan Rickman passed away, and Tim Allen wasn’t available — he has a show — and everybody’s schedule was all weird,” Rockwell said.
Scheduling was one thing, but Rickman proved absolutely irreplaceable, his dry demeanor added a brand of humor to the original film that simply couldn’t be substituted by another actor or omitting the beloved character he portrayed.
“How do you fill that void of Alan Rickman? That’s a hard void to fill,”
Rockwell insisted.
The late Alan Rickman played an out of work television actor named Alexander Dane who in turn portrays the character Dr. Lazarus, a starship’s science officer, in the campy 1999 film.
“Galaxy Quest,” was a parody of “Star Trek,” its zealous fanbase, and of science-fiction nerd culture in general.
