Ben Affleck and his unique career just got even more interesting, as the respected director and part time leading man has signed on to direct his first big budget summer tent pole…a standalone ‘Batman’ movie in which he will also star as the title role.
This will be Affleck’s second effort as the cape wearing anti-hero with pointy ears, meaning at the very least he’ll have outlasted George Clooney as a resident of the Bat Cave.

Affleck first made his debut as the Caped Crusader in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” which hit theater nationwide on March 25.
Warner Bros. confirmed that Ben Affleck will indeed be directing the next ‘Batman’ movie on Tuesday in a press release.
Even though Affleck’s latest portrayal as Bruce Wayne debuted with an impressive $166.1 million opening weekend — the seventh-biggest of all time — the box office receipts for “Batman v Superman” have since stumbled, becoming a disappointment for the studio.
It’s also become doubtful that the movie will reach the coveted $1 billion worldwide mark, a projection it had set out to accomplish in its theatrical run.
One can’t help but wonder if this was an example of putting the cart before the horse.
