Miley Cyrus may be a bit crazy, over-the-top and outrageous at times, but this girl speaks her mind and heart, a truly admirable quality for someone who lives and breathes Hollywood. So, what did she say now? She admits that she is a pansexual.
Being in the spotlight and having country singer Billy Ray Cyrus for a father, Miley was exposed to the Hollywood life early on. However, more than going through the tough celebrity life, Miley was facing a gender problem of her own.
In a recent interview with Variety, Miley admitted about not knowing her gender and sexuality when she was younger. She said:
“My whole life, I didn’t understand my own gender and my own sexuality. I always hated the word ‘bisexual,’ because that’s even putting me in a box. I don’t ever think about someone being a boy or someone being a girl. Also, my nipple pasties and s–t never felt sexualized to me. My eyes started opening in the fifth or sixth grade. My first relationship in my life was with a chick.”
Her parents also didn’t understand what she was going through. Miley was able to go to an LGBTQ center in Los Angeles, California, where she met a person who didn’t identify as a man or a woman. That’s when it hit her, she was that person!
“Even though I may seem very different, people may not see me as neutral as I feel. But I feel very neutral. I think that was the first gender-neutral person I’d ever met. Once I understood my gender more, which was unassigned, then I understood my sexuality more. I was like, ‘Oh—that’s why I don’t feel straight and I don’t feel gay. It’s because I’m not,” she explained.
Right now, it appears that Miley has gotten over her crazy phase as she is now a passionate activist and loves to spread positivity. She shared that her “empowerment comes from feeling like I have a purpose now,” supporting the LGQBT community.
Moreover, she now better understands her power as a celebrity. She said:
“It was making me feel like I was living a dumb life — like I should just pick another job. I didn’t understand my power at that point. People listen because of who I am, so instead of being embarrassed, I should say: “Fuck yeah, I got the microphone.”
