The Hollywood resurrection of Mel Gibson has begun…
Gibson, 60, unveiled his directorial effort Hacksaw Ridge at the Venice International Film Festival on Saturday night. The world premiere of the war epic starring Spiderman actor Andrew Garfield went down big. Really big…we’re talking YUGE.
Hollywood trade website Deadline.com described a 10-minute audience standing ovation after the lights went up. Outside, fanboys even greeted Gibson with their faces painted blue, Braveheart style…

Which may be a good omen, because Mel took home Oscar gold as a director and producer for that gem of a film back in 1995, and so having it linked to his present film isn’t terrible company to be grouped in among.
Mel has fought Tinseltown’s prejudice against him ever since he became tabloid fodder back in 2006 for a DUI that saw him go on a very public anti-Semitic rant while intoxicated.
But as a self-proclaimed Hollywood “survivor”, the one time A-list actor may be returning to prominence with a true Tinseltown comeback once all is said and done. Because as petty and vindictive as Hollywood can be, it also likes money…something Gibson can bring to the table as a filmmaker that Middle America adores.
And after a disastrous 2016 summer box office, the studios might be all the more inclined to take a chance and listen to the one time pariah for the merits of his movie making value…especially if “Hacksaw Ridge” delivers the goods at the box office this winter.
‘Hacksaw Ridge’ opens across the United states on November, 4th.
